Despacito, a song by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi with Daddy Yankee was released in 2017. It was the top streamed song at the period within the space of six months. It was a mixture of reggaeton, pop and rock did not just bring attention to reggaeton but it also attracted attention towards Latin music more generally. In 2015 there were only two mostly Spanish-language songs on Billboard's Top 100 and in 2016 there were four. The Despacito song was at its peak popularity, however 19 predominantly Spanish songs made it to the Top 100 as well, and by 2020 there were 41 songs. Justin Bieber remixed Despacito 2017 in a bilingual version. Then, various artists collaborated with reggaeton superstars like Drake as well as Bad Bunny with MIA (2018), Madonna and Maluma with Medellin 2019 By 2020 a few reggaeton artists were expressing displeasure at their genre's shift towards the mainstream, but a new generation namely Rauw Alejandro, aimed to ensure that reggaeton was evolving. He used elements from other styles and electronic music.
